○ About Brevets
A brevet is not a race. It is a long-distance cycling event ridden at each participant’s own pace while obeying traffic laws and enjoying the scenery. Please do not misunderstand this point. There is no staff support during the ride; it is a sport in which participants ride based on their own ability and at their own responsibility. As various troubles or problems must be handled and resolved by one’s own judgment, participation is limited to adults (20 years of age or older) who are capable of doing so.
A group wearing reflective vests is very conspicuous. Please act while observing the law, common sense, and good manners.
If a participant joins and rides together with a third party who is not a brevet participant, this will be regarded as third-party support, and if such a fact is confirmed, the brevet certification will be revoked.
Support among participants is not a problem. Cooperation among randonneurs is encouraged.
If you exceed the time limit due to accident response or cooperation with police or emergency services, an exception may be granted provided that you report the situation.
○ About the Entry Fee
Considering situations such as the spread of COVID-19, typhoons, or severe weather, the event may be canceled even at short notice.
As bank transfer fees would account for most of the amount, entry fees are generally non-refundable.
We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your understanding before entering.
(Entry fees received will be used for operating costs of future events.)
(We cannot accept requests for refunds or transfers due to participant circumstances.)
○ Regarding Waiver of Rights
Submission of a Waiver Form is not required, but the start signature functions as a signature indicating your agreement to the contents of the waiver. Please be sure to read it carefully in advance.
○ About Insurance Coverage
Please enroll in an insurance policy with personal liability coverage of at least 100 million yen, and with a coverage period that includes the riding period. Each participant is responsible for arranging and contacting the insurance company.
○ About Parking at the Start/Finish
When the start and finish are held at Utsunomiya Forest Park, please check the information here and use Parking Lot No. 5 below the dam. When parking, be sure to park next to the preceding vehicle and park compactly so that others can also use the space.
In the event of accidents or damage to facilities within the parking area, please contact the police, the Forest Park management, and AJ Utsunomiya. If criminal acts such as hit-and-run occur, there is a possibility that the Forest Park may no longer be available as a start/finish location. (The Forest Park kindly allows us to use the site.)
For brevets starting or finishing at other locations as well, please carefully check the respective guidance and take sufficient care to avoid causing inconvenience to the location or local residents.
○ About Equipment
In principle, equipment must comply with the mandatory equipment specified by Audax Japan.
(AJ Regulations: Article 6 – Equipment)
Please be sure to check before the start. Riders who do not comply with the regulations will not be permitted to start.
Please also refer to the additional points specific to AJ Utsunomiya below.
• Front Lights
AJ regulations require two or more front lights for distances of 400 km or more; however, AJ Utsunomiya recommends two or more sufficiently bright front lights regardless of distance. As per AJ regulations, installation is mandatory for distances of 400 km or more.
Attaching a front light to a bag is not prohibited, but please note that lights not securely fixed to the bicycle will not be counted toward the required number during inspection.
• Rear Lights
Do not tie them to bags or luggage; at least one rear light must be fixed to the bicycle. (This is an AJ regulation.)
AJ regulations require one or more rear lights, but AJ Utsunomiya recommends two or more sufficiently bright rear lights regardless of distance.
• Helmet-mounted Rear Light
AJ regulations require this equipment for distances of 400 km or more; however, AJ Utsunomiya recommends it regardless of distance. As per AJ regulations, installation is mandatory for distances of 400 km or more.
• Reflective Gear
The type does not matter—reflective vests, sashes, etc.—but please ensure that it has sufficient reflective surface area, is clearly visible from both the front and rear, and is not obscured by luggage when worn. If it is hidden by luggage (such as a backpack), please attach reflective material with sufficient reflective surface area to the luggage as well. Reflective vests with LEDs may also be used, but please ensure that the reflective area itself is sufficient.
○Baggage Storage
If baggage storage is provided, we will accept one piece of hand luggage within reasonable limits (approximately one item of about 20 L) at the start reception. In case you are unable to collect your baggage due to DNF, etc.,• A Yamato Transport prepaid shipping slip with the destination address already filled in
Please attach it in a visible place on your baggage. The baggage will be returned later by cash-on-delivery shipment, including the cost of the bag used for packing.
Baggage storage may not always be available, so please carefully check each event page and contact us if necessary.
※ To prevent the spread of infectious diseases, baggage storage will not be provided for the time being.
